I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a general psychotherapy practice working with individuals, couples, and families.

I practice with a blended theoretical framework that views each individual in their unique family, social, biological and developmental contexts.  I believe that people can use challenging or painful life circumstances as opportunities for growth.  I work to help people function better in the significant relationships that shape their lives.  I believe that we change by building on our strengths, changing how we think, and learning skills for emotional balance.

I collaborate with my clients to focus treatment goals, evaluate progress and decide frequency and length of treatment.

I have had a full-time private practice with Optima since 2003.  I received my Masters of Social Work from the University of Vermont .  I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Earlham College .

I have been counseling people in diverse settings and circumstances in Burlington since 1986.  Prior to private practice I worked for many years in community mental health and for non-profit social service agencies. My earlier professional experience includes six years as the Clinical Supervisor of a residential program for children with serious emotional and behavioral disabilities. I have worked with families and individuals impacted by major mental illness, trauma, loss, and those facing difficult life decisions and relationship challenges.

I am not a physician and cannot prescribe medication.   (I discuss with clients if medical treatment could be indicated for their symptoms.)
